What is your favorite part of PM?
My favorite part of Project Makeover is being able to make a tangible difference in the community. Over the course of one weekend, PM is able to transform a whole school and impact the lives of students and faculty for many years to come.
What is your favorite memory?
My favorite PM memory is getting to reveal the projects to the school on Monday morning after Makeover Weekend. Seeing how excited the students and faculty are makes it all worth it. There are always lots of happy tears!
Why should people care about PM?
People should care about PM because it allows college students and local Gainesville residents to make a real difference in the community that has given so much to them. Makeover Weekend is a rewarding experience not only for the school, but for the team members and volunteers as well.
How did you get involved with PM?
I volunteered with PM my freshman year and I fell in love with this organization. After that I knew I wanted to get more involved. Since then, I have been a captain, head coordinator, and now Project Manager! Project Makeover is something I am truly passionate about and I am so thankful that I get to be a part of it!
What do you want to tell someone who has never been a part of PM?
One thing I would tell someone who has never been a part of PM is to volunteer! Whether you’re painting murals, landscaping, or building an outdoor classroom, you really can help transform the school and make a difference in the lives of others. Plus it is a lot of fun!
In what ways do you think PM is impacting future generations in Alachua County?
Project Makeover impacts future generations by creating a fun and positive learning environment in elementary schools in Alachua County. We hope that our projects help students get more excited about going to school and find joy in learning.
