With the goal to inspire students to “Dream Big,” Project Makeover headed out to Prairie View Campus housing Idylwild Elementary School for Makeover Weekend 2021. Over the course of five days, our team was able to paint murals, plant new greenery, and even build an outdoor classroom, all with the intention of inspiring elementary school students to explore.
Makeover Weekend was a much-anticipated event, but due to these unprecedented times we were unsure if it could happen. However with the collaboration of our team and leaders, we were able to host Makeover Weekend safely. Team members and volunteers followed social distance guidelines, wore masks and even used QR Codes to track contact tracing.
This was our first time at Prairie View Campus housing Idylwild Elementary School. Our team took part in a variety of projects including landscaping, cleaning, and painting. Murals representing different countries and cultures encourage students to create adventure. Students can explore rich wildlife with our prairie mural or conquer the universe by walking along the solar system sensory walk. Once plain, the campus has turned into a learning space where children can think, create, enjoy and dream.
Our landscaping and construction teams took part in creating an outdoor classroom for students to dive deep into nature, as well as cornhole boards and other hands-on activities! PM believes in creating dynamic learning environments for children. It is not only important to create beautiful spaces, but to continue our service by donating diverse books for classroom reading.
During this unprecedented year, PM is grateful to have played a role and continuing to make a difference for elementary school students in Alachua County. This Makeover Weekend would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors, team members, volunteers, board of directors and families. Thank you for helping us Dream Big.
