What is your favorite part of PM?
My favorite part of PM are the students. Both the amazing fellow UF Gators that devote their time and the students at the Alachua Elementary Schools. On Monday when we join together as students with a passion to learn, it helps everyone reflect on the amazing times we have had in school and how lucky we are to receive the education that we have.
What is your favorite memory?
My favorite memory comes from my first PM weekend that I was involved with. During the middle of Day 2 of the weekend, I went walking around the school to check out the different project that were happening. At every mural, people were dancing to music, having fun and getting to know each other. It made me realize the joy that PM weekend brings the team and volunteers in addition to the students of the school.
Why should people care about PM?
People should care about PM because every hour volunteered, every dollar raised and every paint stroke goes back to helping create a more dynamic learning environment in Alachua County Elementary schools. PM weekend is a hands-on volunteering experience like no other where your hard work helps brighten the school and the lives of the students there.
How did you get involved with PM?
I got involved with PM during my freshman year of college in 2016 as a special events captain. My passion for PM has continued throughout my 4 years of college and I am so blessed to be the Operations Manager now.
What do you want to tell someone who has never been a part of PM?
I would want to tell someone that has never been a part of PM before to come out and volunteer if they can. PM weekend is transformative for the school and for people who volunteer. There is nothing like seeing your hard work translate into a major change. You can see a blank wall turn into a vibrant mural or dead plants transform into a flourishing garden.
In what ways do you think PM is impacting future generations in Alachua County?
Elementary school is vital in creating a student's passion to learn and love of going to school. I think PM is impacting future generations by creating a fun learning environment that students can take pride in and want to learn in.
Why are you grateful for PM?
I am grateful for PM because of the passion it fueled in me to help others and give back to the community. Also, I am grateful for the amazing people I have met along the way and how much I have grown with PM.
